FAQs
- Q: What can I expect to learn from
your method?
A: A Michel Thomas language course concentrates mainly
on achieving a level of proficient conversation and consists
of the following 2 phases:
Phase I: teaches the mechanics and structure of the language
(i.e., grammar). The participant acquires a solid foundation in
vocabulary, grammar, tenses and syntax, and in the process learns
how to formulate thoughts and expressions. There is NO MEMORIZATION,
NO DRILLING and NO HOMEWORK for the student.
Phase II: develops competency and style, and is tailored
to the individual's professional and social needs. The participant
interacts with Michel or an instructor one-on-one or in small,
compatible study groups to maximize growing skills. Exposure to
modern literature such as newspaper and magazine articles and
book excerpts helps reinforce specific language tools and provides
an understanding of the culture, including social and business
customs.
- Q: How long will it take before I will
be able to converse in my new language with another person?
A: One of the most remarkable features of the Michel Thomas
method is the speed with which results are achieved. Knowledge
of the language that would take months of conventional study can
be achieved in a matter of hours with this course. Michel
and his instructors masterfully guide the student through an instructional
process at a very rapid rate - yet the process will appear informal,
relaxed, and unhurried. Michel and his teachers move quickly between
numerous practice sessions, which all build the learner's confidence
in his or her ability to communicate in complex ways.
Because the Michel Thomas method is based on understanding, not
memorization, it offers immersion without strain or stress. In
comfortable surroundings, his method teaches you a process that
allows you to gain knowledge of all facets of the language, while
becoming increasingly aware of the culture of those whose language
you are learning. This will enable you to make progress faster
than you ever imagined possible. Whatever your motivation for
learning a language - for travel, for business, for school, for
qualifications, for personal relationships, or for general interest
- the Michel Thomas course quite simply offers the most effective
method that is available.
- Q: Will I be able to read and write
the language also?
A: Although we concentrate mainly on communication (speaking)
in the chosen language, learning these skills can be incorporated
into Phase II of the class.
- Q: What type of work should I do on
my own to help reinforce what I learn from your program?
A: Obviously, nothing compares with first-hand contact
with native speakers of the language you are learning, but if
this is not possible for you, Michel recommends reading newspapers
and magazines written in the language as one of the best ways
to keep up and extend your language skills. Interviews are particularly
good, as they reflect the language as it is actually being spoken,
rather than the language taught in schools or textbooks.
- Q: Do you have any guarantee of satisfaction
concerning your programs?
A: Yes, Michel guarantees all of his classes. If, after
the first 8 hours of instruction, the student is not highly excited
about his progress, is not convinced that he/she has learned far
more than might be learned in any other course anywhere, or if
he/she chooses not to continue, we will refund the entire fee,
no questions asked.
